Kotoba Uke Mimamori is not a tool for judging someone's beliefs, values, opinions, or way of thinking.
It is also not meant to decide which words are correct, or to limit healthy criticism, disagreement, or opposing opinions.
People each have their own feelings and circumstances. Sometimes words become intense, and sometimes a conversation carries more emotion than expected.
This extension tries to add a little space before reading, while still respecting the freedom to read.
Its central idea is simple: a small choice to protect your heart before reading. It does not force you to read immediately, and it does not take away your freedom to read.
2. The small choice it adds
On X, some wording can feel heavy to receive all at once, especially when it is directed at someone's dignity, identity, safety, or sense of being respected.
Kotoba Uke Mimamori aims to help the reader pause before opening that wording. The choice remains with the user: show the content, or choose not to read it now.
It is a supplemental tool for the reader's heart, not a tool for labeling the poster.
3. Wording it may cushion
The extension focuses on wording that may place a strong emotional burden on the reader, such as wording close to existence denial, personality denial, attribute-based insults, severe insults, repeated pressure, threats, or personal-information risk.
Mentioning an attribute is not treated as a problem by itself. The focus is on wording that reduces a person to an attribute and aims strong prejudice or insult at them.
It is not meant to treat different opinions, fact-checking, requests for explanation, or constructive criticism as something to be restricted.
4. What the extension does
Kotoba Uke Mimamori uses rule-based checking inside your browser to add a gentle cushion before reading wording that may feel emotionally heavy.
It does not erase posts completely. When a cushion is shown, the post text is blurred, and you can choose either "Show content" or "Not now".
In addition to regular post text, quoted post text inside quote posts can also be treated as a cushion candidate.
The options page lets you choose how easily cushions are shown: Low, Standard, or High.
If you choose "Not now", you can still use "Show content" later. The extension keeps both the freedom to read and the freedom not to read for now.
It does not replace X's built-in mute features. It simply adds a small pause before reading, before you decide what to do next.
5. How rule-based detection works
Detection is performed by fixed rule-based checks inside your browser. Post text is not sent to an external AI server for analysis.
Kotoba Uke Mimamori may show a gentle cushion before reading posts that include strong insults, wording close to denying someone's existence, wording that could feel violent or threatening, or expressions that may feel emotionally heavy.
This detection is not perfect. A cushion may appear for posts that are not harmful, and some posts may not show a cushion even when they feel difficult to read.
When rules need to be updated, they are updated as part of the extension itself. Post text and detection results are not collected and used to improve rules.
6. What it is not for
Kotoba Uke Mimamori is not intended to do the following:
- Judge the poster.
- Restrict healthy criticism, disagreement, or opposing opinions.
- Rate accounts or assign account-risk labels.
- Automatically block or report posts or accounts.
- Replace X's built-in mute features.
- Erase posts or remove post DOM.
- Delete posts.
- Completely prevent harassment or unpleasant posts.
The role of this extension is limited to adding a gentle cushion before reading, so the reader can choose what feels right in that moment.
7. Privacy
Post text and detection results are not sent to external servers.
The rule-based checking runs locally in your browser. Saved settings are stored in this browser.
The only saved settings are enabled and
cushionSensitivity. Post text, detection results, URLs,
user information, browsing history, and internal checking details are not
saved.
8. Developer stance
The developer, Naohisa Aoki, does not see himself as someone who can judge people from above.
This project is built from the wish to reduce situations where someone is deeply hurt by one-sided or excessive wording.
The extension is developed as a small support tool that tries to protect the reader's heart while respecting freedom of expression.
9. Continuing carefully
Questions around words and communication are complex. What feels heavy, what feels excessive, and what context matters can differ from person to person.
Kotoba Uke Mimamori will continue to be improved carefully, with both expression and the reader's emotional safety in mind.
